2019 Junior Court

Miss Finland Sofia Morrill from Warrenton was crowned Miss Scandinavia 2019 at the Queen’s Coronation on June 21, 2019. Runner-up is Miss Denmark Isabel Talley from Astoria. As runner-up, Miss Talley will serve as the Lucia Bride for the Lucia Festival in November 2019.

Miss Finland / Miss Scandinavia 2019

Sofia Morrill


Sofia Morrill is a senior at Warrenton High School. In 2009 she was Junior Miss Finland and enjoyed learning about her Finnish heritage by being part of the court. She’s attended the festival regularly and always enjoyed the dancing and the food. Sofia’s mother is from Finland and the whole family has visited Finland numerous times immersing themselves in the culture and being surrounded by relatives. Her mother has some Swedish heritage and her dad’s great-grandmother came from Denmark. Sofia hopes to go to art school in Finland as part of her post high school plans.

Miss Denmark / Sankta Lucia Bride 2019

Isabel Talley


Isabel Talley attends Astoria High School. She attended her first festival last summer and especially enjoyed the demonstrations on Viking weapons and tools by the Empire of Chivalry and Steel. Isabel’s Scandinavian heritage was recently discovered via DNA testing and her family is enjoying learning more about it. After high school, Isabel hopes to study business.

Miss Norway 2019

Jordan Walter


Jordan Walter, Senior Miss Norway, attends Knappa High School and is sponsored by the Sons of Norway Lodge. Her Scandinavian heritage comes from both grandmothers but it’s her grandmother Sharon who has been her biggest Scandinavian influence in teaching her Scandinavian baking. Jordan attended her first festival last year and enjoyed the Queen Coronation and sharing festival activities with her family members. She hopes to learn more about her heritage by serving on the court and build new friendships and have fun. Jordan is president of the student council at KHS and plans on attending Pacific University to study to become an athletic trainer.

Miss Sweden 2019

Hannah Sundstrom Eaton


Senior Miss Sweden is Hannah Sundstrom Eaton of Beaverton representing Astor Lodge #215 of VASA. Her grandfather is Sven Sundstrom who emigrated from Sweden in 1959 and was Grand Marshall of the OpTog (walking parade) at the 2018 festival. Sven has four brothers and four sisters and many relatives still living in Sweden that Hannah and her family have visited. Hannah has attended the festival every summer that she can remember. Her mother was Junior Miss Sweden in 1975 and Senior Miss Sweden in 1986. Hannah looks forward to the festival to become a better public speaker, learn more about her heritage and meet new people. She plans to attend an early college program during her junior and senior years of high school to earn an associate’s degree and then continue on to a four-year university.

Senior Court Chaperone 2019

Rebeckah Orton


Senior Court Chaperone Rebeckah Orton of Astoria has Swedish heritage in her family and she has participated in the festival since she was in the second grade. Rebeckah remembers dancing “Little Man in a Fix” with the Nordic Dancers when she was too skinny for her costume. Her shoes flew off and her partner had to help hold her skirt to keep it on! She’s glad to form relationships with court members and help keep the wonderful tradition of the Scandinavian Midsummer Festival alive. Rebeckah is a doula and operates North Star Doula Service.

Junior Miss Denmark 2019

Harmony


Junior Miss Denmark is Harmony , a third grader from Astoria sponsored by the Danish Society. She dances at festival with the Nordic Viking Dancers. Harmony has aunts and uncles who are members of the Scandinavian dancers and her mother was Senior Miss Denmark in 2002 and also served as Lucia Bride and junior court chaperone. Her ancestors came from Denmark and Sweden.

Junior Miss Finland 2019

Chloe


Chloe, Junior Miss Finland, is a second grader from Astoria who represents the Finnish Brotherhood Lodge. She’s a member of the Nordic Viking Dancers and her family has attended festivals forever. Chloe’s great-great-grandmother emigrated from Finland when she was twelve and both her parents have visited Finland. Chloe likes dancing at the festival, playing games at the Barnefest booth, and seeing all the costumes. A favorite festival memory is when she lost a tooth eating lefse!

Junior Miss Norway 2019

Phaira


Junior Miss Norway Phaira attends school in Astoria and is sponsored by the Sons of Norway. She’s participated in the festival previously by dancing as a member of the Nordic Viking Dancers. She’s looking forward to the 2019 festival so she can eat aebelskiver, learn new things, meet new people, and learn to be less shy. Her great-grandmother Lorraine Hoyer’s parents immigrated from Norway in 1929. Her great-grandfather Dave Hoyer’s parents immigrated from Sweden.

Katelynn


Katelynn, Junior Miss Sweden, is a third grader from Astoria representing Swedish Lodge Astor #215. Her sister was Junior Miss Sweden in 2018 and her aunt Miriam was Senior Miss Sweden in 2010. Her family has been involved in festival activities for a long time and Katelynn especially enjoys dancing at the Lucia Fest and at festival time. Katelynn’s great-great-grandparents emigrated from Sweden and she also has ancestors who were Finnish and Norwegian.

Crown Bearer 2019

Kirk


Kirk is Crown Bearer for the 2019 Festival Court. He is a second grader in Knappa who also served as star boy at the 2018 Sankta Lucia Festival. This experience and the fact that a favorite babysitter was Miss Scandinavia convinced him to participate and become involved in the festival. His mother Amanda was Miss Norway and Miss Scandinavia in previous years and his mother’s family keeps in contact with Danish relatives including cousins who are his age. Kirk enjoys helping on the family dairy farm and playing with his sister.

Junior Court Chaperone 2019

Amanda Caldwell Rohne


Junior Court Chaperone is Amanda Caldwell Rohne of Brownsmead who was Miss Norway and Miss Scandinavia in 1999. She has served on the entertainment committee for the festival and was chair for two years. Her son Kirk is Crown Bearer this year and she hopes that he will learn more about his family history. Amanda’s maternal great-grandparents emigrated from Norway and Denmark. She looks forward to meeting the young people on this year’s court and visiting the lodges with them. Amanda and her husband Dirk own and operate a dairy farm in Brownsmead and have two children, Kirk and Ellen.
