The Astoria Scandinavian Midsummer Festival Association awarded three scholarships at the 2023 Midsummer Festival.
Olivia Esnard from Seaside High School was awarded a scholarship from the Scandinavian Benevolent Society. Oliva was Miss Finland and Miss Scandinavia in 2022. She will attend Oregon State University to study Marine Science.
Kaylee Falleur from Astoria High School received a scholarship donated by Tony Larson in memory of Chuck Higgins, Dave Hoofnagle, and Sven Sundstrom. Kaylee was Miss Sweden in 2022 and will attend Eastern Oregon University to study Agricultural Entrepreneurship.
Stian Matthews from Astoria High School received a scholarship from the Scandinavian Benevolent Society in memory of Skip Hauke and Sterling Ficken. Stian will attend a community college or trade school to pursue an education in mechanics or forestry.
